was confined to an institution never returning to work. The existence of Dr. Petersen’s papers have never been uncovered. Due to the Baxter/Connell contract Dr. Connell was totally dependent upon Baxter for his supply of Ensol as it was no longer being produced in Kingston.

During the late 1950's and early 60's, the supply of Ensol(U10) that Connell had been receiving from Baxter dried up.

"One can only speculate why Baxter stopped production, could it have been patent infringements, not enough market to cover production costs, or did they just want to keep it off the market?"

During the late 1950’s and early 60’s the supply of Ensol (U10) that Connell had been receiving from Baxter dried up. It appeared that Baxter decided to stop production of U10 and destroy all existing supplies. One can only speculate why Baxter stopped production, could it have been patent infringements? not enough market to cover production costs? or did they just want to keep it off the market?

From the first production of Ensol, Dr. Connell had been the first to be inoculated. With each new batch of the Ensol serum he would inject himself with several cc’s to ensure its safety. Ironically, Dr. Hendry Connell died of heart failure January 30, 1964 his body full of cancer. Dr. Ford Connell (no relation) his physician said, after Hendry’s death,

“No one should have had so little pain having that amount of cancerous disease. There must have been something in that Ensol after all’”

Dr. Calvin Hendry Cameron Connell died a brave and sad man.

It is ironic that over 75 years later, today’s cancer research has taken up Dr. Connell’s prophecy of including the patient’s cancer cell in the serological process of developing an antigen for this malignant disease. Dr. Connell was working on a vaccine and ever since Ensol’s discovery in 1935, he had predicted that...

‘”It is from this particular field namely the study of the serological processes involved in immunity and disease, that success in treatment and control of cancer will be found’“

Only today are companies such as the French pharmaceutical giant Aventis Pasteur out of Montreal, Vanderbilt University’s ‘Personalized Medicine’ program in Kentucky

and the University of California in San Francisco catching up with cancer research history. All of this recent research has had success with numerous cancer types such as skin and brain tumours.

It is regrettable that the endeavours of the Hendry Connell Research Foundation were neither completely understood nor fully appreciated by those in charge of development and financing. It is impossible to guess what might have been achieved had the active support that was promised been forthcoming during that time.

WHAT IS ENSOL?

Ensol is a biologic preparation for use in the treatment of cancer. It was a serum, later found to be an antigen, which when produced from the patients’ cancer cells and injected back into the human body exerted a profound influence on the malignant growth by dissolving cancer growths.
Many patients reported weight gain, a return of appetite and a high level of energy. What was important, was that it had no ill side effects such as loss of hair, upset stomach or many of today’s side effects. After 5 years of research Dr. Connell announced his discovery in 1935, during that year over 13,100 cc’s were requested from cities throughout Canada, the US, Alaska and as far away as Australia.
