He also instigated the re-lighting of the cities first gaslight standard at King and Lower Union streets, which is still active today.
Dr. Connell started and was president of The Hendry Connell Research Foundation,
which later produced Ensol, the cancer pain relieving serum in 1935. This cancer research became his passion till his death in March 1964.
Hendry Connell was an optimistic, forward thinking, selfless and caring without prejudice individual. This visionary scientist passed away having expended all his resources and personal energy before his serum Ensol reached general availability.
Hendry’s 1919 graduating medical yearbook stated:
“Keeps his council, does his duty cleaves to friends and loveth beauty”
Dr. Alexander Bogomoletz was born in a Russian jail in 1881, Dr. Alexander Bogomoletz discovered a serum he called A.C.S. (Antirecticular Cytoxic Serum). This serum was well researched and was given to the Russian Army as a healing agent. ACS healed wounds at a much faster rate suggesting that it’s properties stimulated the reticular tissues of the body whose function it is to combat disease. Dr. Connell was very interested in this procedure as Ensol was also lending itself to combating disease and cancer through the same reticulo endothelial system. Since Connell’s Ensol was a specific stimulating antigen calculated to produce antibodies against malignant growths, it was valuable that Dr. Connell obtain ACS to check and forward some of his own research. The Bogomoletz’s serum was...continued on page 2
